Hot Tub Electrical Installation — Safe, Permitted, Ready to Soak

A hot tub is one of the best additions you can make to your home — but it requires a properly sized, dedicated electrical circuit installed by a licensed electrician. Powered Electric Niagara handles hot tub electrical installations across the Niagara Region, from the panel to the disconnect to the tub, fully permitted and ESA-inspected.

What's Included in Every Hot Tub Installation

Dedicated 240V circuit — 40A or 50A depending on your tub's requirements

GFCI breaker protection — mandatory for all hot tub circuits in Ontario

Outdoor-rated disconnect switch installed within sight of the tub

Properly rated wiring — direct burial or conduit depending on site conditions

Connection to your existing panel (or sub-panel installation if needed)

ESA permit and inspection — handled from start to finish

Full testing and verification before you fill the tub

Plug-In vs. Hardwired — Which Do You Have?

Smaller "plug-and-play" hot tubs run on a standard 120V outlet and typically don't need an electrician (though we're happy to install a dedicated outdoor outlet if you need one). Most full-size hot tubs require a hardwired 240V connection with a dedicated GFCI breaker and a disconnect switch — this is the type of installation we specialize in.

Not sure which type you have? Check your tub's manual or send us the model number — we'll tell you exactly what's needed.

Common Questions

Do I need a permit for a hot tub?

Yes — all hardwired hot tub installations in Ontario require an ESA permit and inspection. We handle this for you.

How long does the installation take?

Most hot tub electrical installations are completed in half a day. If a sub-panel is needed, it may take a full day.

Can my panel handle a hot tub?

We'll check during your free estimate. If your panel is full or undersized, we can add a sub-panel or upgrade your service.

What about the disconnect switch?

Ontario code requires a disconnect switch within sight of the tub and at least 1.5 metres away. We install this as part of every job.
